Mr. James Barnes

James BarnesMr James Barnes has worked in senior and preparatory schools since 1983. In a headship career encompassing three preparatory schools over 18 years he moved from the tranquil waters of a boarding school of 70 boys to a co-educational day and boarding school of over 450.

In 2003 he established JBC in whilst working as a consultant for GEMS UK. Early projects included the setting up of Sherfield School in Hampshire and the inspection of the Bucharest International School on behalf of Gabbitas. In 2010 the business incorporated a number of Associates in order to deliver high quality support for schools. Recent contracts have included a number of heads’ appraisals, work with staff in preparatory and senior schools schools developing teaching and learning together with inspection preparation.

James is a qualified inspector and appraiser, has sat on IAPS Council, the IAPS Membership and Inspections Committees and has been the IAPS representative on the Independent Schools Council Community Service Committee. He is the Chairman of Council at Milton Abbey School and the Communications Director of The Prep School Baccalaureate, which has the focus of developing life skills in young people alongside academic excellence.

With what time is left for recreation he enjoys walking the byways of Wiltshire, spending time in the company of his family, playing golf and the more sedentary pursuits of cooking and reading.
